Luis Palomo
For Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Trustee

  MEET Luis

I am a life-long learner, student advocate and have a calling to serve others. I started my journey in education in Houston where I worked directly for Communities in Schools, HISD, and served as an educational consultant for 9 years. My mentor, Max Torres changed my life and I wanted to be that mentor to others and to lift people up. I returned home to the Dallas area in 2008 and I spent the next 8 years working at El Centro College in downtown Dallas followed by my work as a Student Advisor with Texans Can Academies for 5 years. During this time, my wife and I moved to Carrollton to raise our kids in the CFB school district. We have two Early College High School graduates and two R.L. Turner graduates from the former METSA program.

My latest involvement includes volunteering within CFBISD in various capacities. I believe I am qualified by my extensive experience in Education as well as my commitment to student success. Let's get back to the basics and meet students where they are. Each one has the full capacity for excellence; it takes one person, one word of encouragement, one teacher, to make life-changing successful student outcomes.

HERE'S HOW I SEE IT!

We need to stay focused on smart stewardship of taxpayer dollars while prioritizing what happens in the classroom.

01

Set clear priorities:

The board should protect funding for teachers, classroom instruction, and programs that directly help students succeed. Everything else gets reviewed through the question: “Does this improve student outcomes?”

02

Be efficient and transparent:

We need to continue finding savings where possible — like the recent campus consolidations that are expected to save up to $9 million in the first year. Those savings should be redirected back into the classroom instead of just covering deficits. Regular budget reviews and clear communication help taxpayers see exactly where their money is going.

03

Make data-driven decisions:

Before spending or cutting, we should look at real results. Are programs delivering strong academic growth? Are we closing gaps for special education, ELL, and economically disadvantaged students? If not, we adjust.

04

Control costs without hurting quality:

This means supporting competitive teacher pay to attract and keep great educators (TIA), while avoiding unnecessary administrative bloat. It also includes responsible long-term planning for facilities so we’re not paying for buildings we no longer need.

WHY LUIS?

I am running to be able to serve as a voice, in this position for our community. I am a product of the public school system and I should have been a statistic. I grew up and attended Dallas schools in Oak Cliff (Sunset High School grad) and I'm thankful for the mentors and teachers that encouraged me and poured into me. I survived many situations because of these key people in my life and this began my trajectory of giving back and being that someone for other youth and their families.

For the past 25 years I have been involved in education and student advocacy. In 1999, after college, I moved to Houston to work directly for Communities in Schools, HISD, and as an educational consultant for 9 years. I returned home to the Dallas area in 2008 and I spent the next 8 years working at El Centro College. Following that, I served as a Student Advisor with Texans Can Academies. My latest involvement includes volunteering within CFBISD in various capacities. I believe I am qualified by my extensive experience in Education as well as my commitment to student success. For the past 6 years, I transitioned to serve as an Admin for Grace Preschool across the street from RL Turner High School, serving teen moms and their quest for graduation. The last 5 years I have spent working as a mentor to students at RL Turner and Early College HS, and since 2020 working with Make It Count, Formerly Bea’s kids. I also served as a RESH 180 class facilitator along with my wife at RLTurner and Ranchview, a rewarding program that emphasizes self-worth, affirmation and purpose of each individual. I was honored as a Lifetime PTA member for my volunteer work at Early College High School and continue to serve on campus when needed. I am an alum of the DVULI class of 2003 and 2019, and continually seek ways to connect with and serve students.
